Statement by Polish Foreign Minister Jacek Czaputowicz at the event “Alliance for Multilateralism: Building the Network and Presenting Results”

26.09.2019 - Speech

Today, we face multiple challenges with regard to global peace, stability and prosperity. PL strongly believes that addressing these may not be possible without a strong and effective multilateral cooperation.

Let me underscore our appreciation for the efforts made by co-hosts of this initiative to make it a reality. It creates an excellent opportunity to manifest our commitment to the idea that a rules-based multilateral order is the only reliable guarantee for international stability and peace. We consider the proposed six thematic initiatives as timely and valid.

The protection of international law is one of priorities of Poland’s membership in the United Nations Security Council.

Last month, during our UNSC presidency we organized a high-level briefing on international humanitarian law, marking the occasion of 70th anniversary of the Geneva Conventions. Following this meeting, on the initiative of PL, the Security Council adopted a Presidential Statement (PRST) on International Humanitarian Law.

However, measures taken at the domestic level are the key. We therefore suggest presentation of voluntary national reports as a good practice.

I thank you.
