Statement by H.E. the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Greece Mr. Nikos Dendias at the Event “Alliance for Multilateralism: Building the Network and Presenting Results”

26.09.2019 - Speech

Dear Colleagues,
Ladies and gentlemen,

I would like to sincerely thank our co-hosts for being the moving forces behind the “Alliance for Multilateralism”.

In joining the Alliance, Greece demonstrates its firm commitment to contributing to international initiatives and actions aimed at the protection and promotion of human rights, democracy, fundamental freedoms, the rule of law, human dignity, solidarity and equality, including gender equality, as well as the respect for the principles of the UN Charter and international law.

It is in this spirit, that Greece has initiated a number of multilateral initiatives, including the establishment of new schemes of multilateral cooperation in its wider region.

Let me briefly touch upon one of the greatest global challenges of our times that urgently calls for global solutions, climate change.

Concerned about the impact of climate change on cultural and natural Heritage, Greece with the support of UNESCO and World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has launched an initiative on “ADDRESSING CLIMATE CHANGE IMPACT ON CULTURAL AND NATURAL HERITAGE”.

So far many member states, International Organizations and other stakeholders have embraced this initiative.

I would like to benefit from your presence today and invite all of you to join our common efforts towards securing the future of our cultural and natural heritage

Thank you very much.
